These photo strips are excerpts from lightning cameraman Baz Pander's collection of analogue and digital contact sheets.
From the first film and photography lesson at St. Joost Academy, Breda, BazPander has been fascinated by the additional information that can be seen on those contact sheets. He is not so much concerned with the most beautiful and useful negatives, but much more with the image rhythm and the structure of the photo series (from bottom right to top left).
From the first contact sheet that Baz Pander saw in his first year Photography at St. Joost, he was touched by the underlying information that the photo series showed. While most of his fellow students' attention was focused on the three or four negatives that a possible top photo could yield, BazPander was struck by the image rhyme and the process of creation (from bottom right to top left) of the photo session on the contact sheet.
Since then, Baz Pander has cherished his collection of analog and digital contact sheets. These contact sheets not only form an entrance to the photo and slide archive, but also form a photo diary with reminders and notes - a time capsule, a window to a past time.

Contact sheets
are prints of all the photos taken on one roll of film. They are used
to get an overview of the recordings and to select the best photos.
Contact sheets are especially important in analog photography, where
the photographer cannot immediately see the result. Contact sheets can
also provide information about the photographer's context and process².
Contact sheets are less common today due to the rise of digital photography, where photos can be easily viewed and edited on a computer or mobile phone². However, some photographers miss the contact sheet as a way to evaluate and present their work².
There are several ways to make your own contact sheet. One method is to use a light box and place the negatives on a sheet of photo paper. Then the paper is exposed and developed in a dark room³. Another method is to use a scanner to digitize the negatives and then create a contact sheet with a program such as Photoshop³.
